Vilnius Congress Centre (VCC) is a significant socio-economic project of the state that has been recognized by the Government of Lithuania. It will be erected after the reconstruction and rearrangement of Vilnius Palace of Concerts and Sports in Vilnius, Rinktinės str. 1, and after it will be adapted for congresses, conferences and cultural events.
Due to the lack of adequate infrastructure for larger conferences, currently in Lithuania the potential of conference tourism is not realized. It is not possible to organize international events of large extent in Lithuania because there are no venues to accommodate more than 2,000 participants.
Vilnius Congress Centre will be the largest centre in the Baltic States that provides this type of services and meets international standards. It will increase competitiveness and awareness of Lithuania, will promote and develop conference tourism, and will contribute to attracting investment.
The Congress Centre will operate in the central part of the city. It overlooks panorama of Vilnius Old Town and the main highlights of the Old Town – Gediminas Castle and the New Arsenal. Thanks to its extremely convenient location in the city, conference participants will reach the Centre and nearby hotels by car from the airport in just 18 minutes, and will take them only some minutes by foot to visit the oldest part of the city.
The Centre will be equipped with 10 conference and other event halls of various sizes. An extension with additional 500-seat conference hall is planned to be built on the right side of the building. Additional spaces are also planned to be equipped by glazing the terraces of the building.
An area of the building will be expanded from 15.6 thousand square meters to 17.3 thousand square meters. The premises will be re-designed and adapted for various events as necessary: for conferences (halls that accommodate from 50 to 2,400 participants), for cultural events (from 50 to 4,800 spectators), for exhibitions (from 300 to 2,400 square meters).
As part of the project implementation, Vilnius Palace of Concerts and Sports, that has been recognized as a cultural heritage site, will be reconstructed. During the reconstruction, the valuable properties of the building will be preserved, the elements of the façade will be renewed, by preserving their materiality. Reconstruction of the unique cable-stayed roof construction is also planned. The existing building will be completely renovated – from the façade to the windows. The premises of the building will be re-designed and will be equipped with up to 10 halls of various sizes, the interior of the building will be renovated by preserving its valuable properties. The use of mobile partitions will make it possible to transform the spaces of the building. Therefore, it will be adapted in extremely flexible way for various needs.
As part of the implementation of agreements with local and international Jewish organizations, as well as with Vilnius City Municipality, the territory of the Conference Centre will be managed and the Old Jewish Cemetery will be commemorated. It is planned that, in order to respond to the cultural and historical heritage of old Vilnius and the importance of this place to the Jewish community, permanent exhibitions will be organized in the building of the Congress Centre itself.
This project is implemented by SE Turto bankas, which is the manager of the centrally managed state property. The Centre, which has been recognized by the government as the project of state importance, is estimated to be opened to the public in 2023.
